ON the morning of April 25, 1915, eleven Lancashire Fusilier (LF) officers and 350 of their men were gunned down on the beaches of Gallipoli.
Yet, despite heavy casualties and withering fire from Turkish defence positions, the 1st Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers won undying fame, not to mention 'Six VCs Before Breakfast'.
On Sunday , the daring and bravery shown by the Lancashire Fusiliers will be commemorated once more during the annual Gallipoli Service and Parade. LF veterans and those currently serving in the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers will lead the tribute ahead of representatives from a host of military youth groups and civic leaders.
The Colonel of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, Brigadier David Biggart, OBE, will take the salute during the march past of the parade.
Wreaths will be laid at the cenotaph in honour of the fallen.
Reverend Dr John Findon will lead the service in Bury Parish Church. The parade starts at 11.20am followed shortly by the church service.
