THE Lancaster & Blackpool Honda Rally team attended the Twyford Wood Stages rally on Sunday April 20, it was 55 stage miles held over eight stages at Lincolnshire.
It was a very difficult track with a narrow windy road that had trees and ditches either side.
The dry weather made some stages dusty, even so David Cox and Paul Upton were joint first in class after the first stage.
Due to a puncture in the second stage David couldn't avoid contact with a straw bale which lost some time. Further problems were encountered in stage three when the near side rear suspension was damaged very badly, it looked as they were out of the rally. It was thanks to the excellent work of Phil Davis that it was fixed with minutes to spare as they entered the fourth stage.
Throughout the whole day David and Paul had a massive battle with a Talbot Sunbeam who put up an excellent fight but in the end it was David and Paul who finished 15th overall out of 76 starters and an impressive first in class.
David was very pleased as this is only the eighth rally of the season and already he has secured a first Class win. He extended his gratitude to the mechanics on the day -- Phil Davis and Barry Todd who worked extremely hard and did an excellent job keeping the car and the team in the rally.
The whole team was delighted with the excellent outcome and it was thanks to the exceptional work of everyone on the day which secured such an impressive position.
