POOL slipped to their seventh defeat in nine games thanks to a solitary goal in the first half by David Farrell.
Most players in Tangerine looked like they couldn't wait for the season to end, as this was a performance that lacked both effort and interest.
With the Seasiders falling to eleventh, the season that promised so much in February may turn out to be no improvement on last years position.
Both teams had little to play for in this game, with Peterborough only needing a single win to mathematically ensure their safety in the division.
But, in the first half, it looked like the home side's entire season depending on this game. The Posh were by far the superior side in the first half and deservedly went into the break with a one-goal lead.
The goal itself came from David Farrell, a player just returned to the starting line-up after a spell on the bench.
He latched onto a through-ball from Leon McKenzie to beat Pool keeper Phil Barnes with a fierce drive from the edge of the box on 12 minutes.
Farrell nearly doubled Posh's lead when a similar effort came crashing off the Blackpool post to the relief of a static Tangerine defence.
Pool's best chances of the first half came to Scott Taylor who, as he has so often this season, failed to hit the target after being put through on goal.
The second half was painful to watch and any Blackpool supporter hoping for a second half fight back was to be disappointed. Blackpool's only spell of dominance came too late and even that three minute spell at the end of the game produced little.
Peterborough, on the other hand, looked capable of doubling their lead but were thwarted by Phil Barnes who denied both Farrell and Richard Scott with fine saves.
Not many of the 269 travelling support were in rapturous applause at the final whistle and even the home fans left with ten minutes to go.
This was a poor performance, probably the worst of the season and that's taking into account the 4-0 loss at Mansfield. Despite the scoreline, that game at Field Mill had double the effort of this one at Peterborough.
Peterborough 1 Blackpool 0
