CHRISTOPHER Murphy forced his way into his ex-wife's home and attacked her new partner, a court was told.
But Margaret Murphy bore the brunt of the attack when she came between the two men, Blackburn magistrates heard.
She suffered bruising to her eye and a possible hairline fracture of a cheekbone before succeeding in forcing Murphy out of the house.
Murphy, 47, of Exeter Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.
He was made subject to a community rehabilitation order for 12 months with a condition that he attends the Think First programme.
The court heard that Mrs Murphy was at home in Hollin Bridge Street with her children and new partner when Murphy turned up and started banging and shouting at the front door.
She and her partner went upstairs to get out of the way but shortly after she heard him running up the stairs.
