CHANGES to Leigh's main shopping street are open to public discussion.
People are being asked what they think about proposals to extend Bradshawgate's successful pedestrianisation scheme.
Following the recent introduction of environmental improvements to the town centre's main shopping street, Wigan Council is ready to extend the scheme to the eastern end of the road later this year.
Before then, planners and engineers need to know what local people think of the proposals. Questionnaires are being sent to the people directly affected and there's also an opportunity for everyone to see the proposals at a public exhibition.
Council officers will be at Leigh Library on Tuesday, April 29 between 3.00pm and 7.00pm, and the following day between 11am and 3.00pm, to discuss plans with the public.
Director of Engineering Services, Peter Taylor said: "We want to make sure this next stage is a winner and the best way to do that is by listening to what people say.
"The earlier scheme created a safer environment for shoppers and locals by removing much of the traffic on Leigh's main shopping street. As well as the pedestrianisation, we invested in the general appearance of the area and ensured good quality street furniture was provided to make the area pleasant and attractive."
