A WOMAN who tried to tackle a kitchen fire herself was given oxygen by firefighters.
The fire broke out at the house in Kent Street, Leigh, after the woman had fallen asleep after leaving pans on a cooker. She was alerted by a smoke alarm and tried to put out the blaze but was overcome by smoke. Kitchen units and the cooker were damaged and the woman was taken to hospital for a check up.
