ANYONE who has travelled the main Blackburn/Darwen road, the A666, will have noticed that if you live in the estates that were only erected since the motorway reared its ugly head, you can stop the traffic on the main road any time you like because of the priority they are given.
This is causing problems with people who have lived and worked in the area for more years than they can remember.
My father, who works as a gardener, with a greater number of his clients in Blackburn, won't even leave his house in the Lynwood area before 9am due to the fact that he wouldn't get there any quicker!
Those who have read this newspaper for years will remember the promises loosely thrown about when the M65 extension was announced and the fact that they were going to build estates close to the motorway junctions for commuters. We were told that no effect would be felt by the residents already living in the borough.
If the councillors who told us this years ago had seen the traffic queues backed up to the ICI works every morning when the schools are back and the amount of cars that are actually stopping all the main road traffic, I'm sure they would admit that they have now got egg on their faces.
They should do something to try and rectify the problem by re-prioritising the lights at Oakdale and the ones at the Fernhurst pub to give a steadier flow of traffic to the main A-road and not to the traffic joining it.
The fact is that everyone is their own important person, but why should the ordinary people who they claim to be representing be the one to bear the brunt of the council's shortcomings?
D PHOENIX (Mr), Melrose Street, Darwen.
