PROFESSIONAL Shaun Young took a dramatic catch on the final ball of the day to lead champions BACUP to a breathtaking win over CHURCH.

The Australian, who missed last week's opener due to the birth of his child, made sure his side continued their winning start to the season - but it went down to the wire.

With Church one run behind and one ball to go in the match, Sam Tucker drove what looked like a winning run.

But Young was equal to it, plucking the ball out the air for a superb catch.

Bacup set the pace in the match by setting a target of 206 for Church to win.

Matt O'Connor finished unbeaten on 98, but will feel he missed a great chance to grab his century.

Church pro Greg Mail looked impressive, taking three wickets.

In reply, Mail hit 42 and Aspin, 58, drove the score along to set up the dramatic finale, but it was Bacup who held on to take 10 points.

Damien Clarke was the star of the show as ACCRINGTON saw off BURNLEY.

The skipper returned his best bowling figures for the club, taking six for 51 from an 18-over spell. It included the all-important wicket of Burnley professional Pierre Joubert for just 29.

In reply, Andre Seymore hammered the Burnley attack, scoring an unbeaten 121.

His knock included 19 fours and a six, with his century coming in just 129 balls.

NELSON enjoyed a very productive weekend as professional Joe Scuderi inspired them to two victories and a haul of 22 points.

The former Lancashire county player followed his top scoring performance of 79 in the win over Church on Saturday, with an unbeaten knock of 126 as Nelson got the better of RAWTENSTALL at Seedhill yesterday.

The Nelson track certainly proved to have runs in it as visitors Rawtenstall set what looked a good score of 244-3 - opener Andy Payne setting the tone with a fine knock of 90 with Australian professional Mike Smith weighing-in with an unbeaten knock of 85.

However, Scuderi was in patient and prolific form as he compiled his 126 in 147 minutes with 11 fours and a six, and good support from David Crotty (41) and Daniel Kegg (36) ensured Nelson reached their target with five wickets intact.

At Centre Vale Ibra Ali was also putting the finishing touches to a fine weekend's work as he followed a five wicket haul at Rawtenstall with six victims in TODMORDEN'S 79-run success over RAMSBOTTOM.

Todmorden cannot have been overly confident as they set 186-6 relying heavily on substitute professional Adnan, who compiled 85 and Brian Heywood, who was unbeaten on 37.

However, Ali had his own ideas and quickly unsettled the Ramsbottom order and he eventually claimed his six victims at a cost of just 37 runs from a 22-over spell.

EAST LANCS were always in control against HASLINGDEN.

Haslingden professional Jerry Cassell missed the game through back spasms, with Cherry Tree's Nadeem Ashraf stepping in as sub pro.

Haslingden set a target of just 131, and that proved no problem for the Blackburn side.

The definite turning point was when East Lancs were 60 for 3, Haslingden needed to take quick wickets, but Johann Louw and Graham Rose had the situation under control for the visitors.

Gary Hunt took a superb five for 26 as COLNE skittled RISHTON out for 127.

Hunt destroyed the middle order to set his side up for a 12-point victory.

Colne had to work hard in reply, but they reached their target with four overs and two wickets to spare.

LOWERHOUSE have still to win a game after losing to ENFIELD.

They were bowled out for just 89, Enfield winning with 13 overs to spare.
