A ROSSENDALE woman who called the fire brigade out under false pretences while possibly affected by medication and drink, was made subject to a two-year community rehabilitation order by magistrates at Rochdale.

Mother-of-four Amanda Carroll, 33, of Cobden Street, Britannia, Bacup, had admitted giving a false alarm of a fire to Rochdale Fire Brigade.

She also admitted a further charge of deception, in which she and another woman obtained drinks and food from The Litten Tree pub, Rochdale, by using a credit card she knew had been stolen. This was also taken into account.

Carroll, said to have psychiatric problems, was also ordered to pay £16 compensation for the food and drink fraudulently obtained.

The rehabilitation order will include compliance with special requirements, including regular attendance at Rossendale General Hospital to see a specialist.

Carroll, also known as Grainger, said she could not remember calling the fire brigade but she had been taking a variety of medication and was not sure whether she had taken drink. She told the court she regretted it and wanted to apologise.

The magistrates also accepted that Carroll and her friend had been persuaded by a man at a hostel to use the credit card to get food and drink from the bar at The Litten Tree. She suspected it had been stolen when she went through with the deception.

Carroll had already been subject to a court order and the magistrates were told that she had had problems in her life, which she was trying to solve. She had kept regular contact with various medical agencies.
