BURNLEY'S Mayor and Mayoress, Coun Gordon and Mrs Kathleen Birtwistle, held a farewell buffet lunch for members of the local press.
The gathering, which takes place in the Mayor's parlour at the town hall, is an annual event.
Coun Birtwistle thanked reporters from the Lancashire Evening Telegraph and representatives of other local media for their help throughout the year.
He was congratulated on a successful year on office, which has involved raising thousands of pounds for his scanner appeal and campaigning alongside the Lancashire Evening Telegraph to save East Lancashire's homes for the elderly.
The couple were presented with an album containing photographs of his year and Mrs Birtwistle received a bouquet of flowers.
The mayor has just over two weeks of civic engagements left before he hands over the mayoral duties to new Mayor Lillian Clark on May 14.
