VOLUNTEERS and staff at the Burnley and Pendle Hospice gathered to celebrate the 80th birthday of one of its founder members.
Muriel Jobling is still an active member of the Hospice Care for Burnley and Pendle team and commits 12 to 16 hours a week in her role as chairman for the charity.
Miss Jobling was one of the founders of the hospice movement in Burnley and Pendle and recognised the need for a special care centre for people suffering from cancer and other terminal illnesses.
She was presented with a bouquet of flowers, a cake and several gifts and cards.
A former member of the area Health Authority, and an active member of the Guides movement, she eventually became a Commonwealth advisor for the movement.
