A CHOIR of Japanese women and a Pendle men's choir aim to overcome the language barrier when they meet in Colne next week -- by singing together in Latin.
The Coro Ventuno Tokyo and Colne Orpheus Glee Union will present a selection from Mozart's Mass in C, sung in Latin, in a concert at Christ Church, in Keighley Road, on Friday, May 9, at 7pm.
The Japanese choir organised a visit to Europe and will arrive in Lancashire next week after singing in Vienna. They are providing the soloists for the Colne concert.
Orpheus chairman Eric Beardsworth said: "We don't how many of the Tokyo choir speak English and none of the Orpheus can speak Japanese so the Mozart Mass in Latin gives us the ideal chance to sing something together."
"They sent us their own recording of the piece and it's helped us to prepare our parts. We'll put it all together in a rehearsal the day before the concert.
"They are a superb choir and we're looking forward to singing with them"
The concert will also feature Japanese traditional music and British male voice favourites. Admission is £2 to cover church expenses.
