ORGANISERS of this year's Accrington Carnival have begun their search for a Carnival Queen.
The bi-annual event, organised by the Accrington Lions, will take place in June, but tomorrow a contest will be held to find the queen who will represent the event and organisers for the next two years. Prizes worth £700 are on offer for the winner, including a £300 holiday voucher, £100 cash, a dinner for two with bubbly, and £100 hairdressing voucher.
The contest is open to anyone between the ages of 16 and 29 who lives or works in Hyndburn. Second and third prizes of £60 and £40 respectively are also up for grabs.
The winner will lead the carnival's opening parade and attend Lions functions for the next two years.
In 2001 the route had to be changed at the request of the police two weeks before the event. The carnival also moved from its traditional home of Accrington and Rossendale College, Sandy Lane, Accrington, to Peel Park School playing fields.
