HAKAN Sukur has stunned Blackburn Rovers by saying he's ready to walk out on the club and head back to Turkey this summer.
The former Inter Milan star has reportedly told the Turkish Press that he's unhappy in England after failing to adjust to life in the Premiership.
And now the 31-year-old front man is thought to be considering an offer to join Fenerbahce next season, which would scupper any hopes Graeme Souness had of signing him permanently.
"I'm not happy here," Sukur allegedly told Turkish newspaper The Hurriyet.
"I miss Turkey and I am thinking of the offer from Fenerbahce.
"If a deal can be done, then I will end my career at Fenerbahce."
Souness brought Sukur to Ewood in December with a view to signing him permanently in the summer if the Turk proved he could cut it in the Premiership.
But a succession of injuries affected his chances of making an immediate impression and, barring his two goals against Fulham, he has struggled to recapture the kind of form which made him a legend at Galatasaray.
If he does ultimately return to Turkey this summer, Souness will have to switch his attentions elsewhere in his search for a striker.
The Rovers boss still has Matt Jansen to return from his loan spell at Coventry, however, and everyone at Ewood is hoping he will be ready to challenge for a first team place by the start of next season.
Although the 25-year-old admits his three-month loan spell at Highfield Road has not been quite as successful as he would have hoped, he insists it has still been a worthwhile exercise as he continues his fightback from a serious head injury.
"It's been exactly what I've needed," said Jansen.
"I've enjoyed my time at Coventry where I have been working with a good bunch of lads.
"I'm yet to fully get back to where I was but I've needed these games and slowly but surely I'm feeling more and more comfortable, but there is still a lot of work ahead.
"I'm happy with my workrate, but it is just a case of being more aware."
"In layman's terms, it's learning to play again.
"I find certain things difficult but it's just a case of practice, practice, practice.
"This is what I have needed though. I needed first team games and I'm thankful to Coventry for giving me that."
Jansen has only made eight appearances for City during his three-month spell after injuries and illness have meant he has had to sit out certain games.
But he's hoping to sign off with a bang this weekend when he plays his final game against Millwall.
"I've been disrupted a little bit. I was ill for a couple of weeks and I tweaked my hamstring and sat out as a precaution.
"Having said that, the stay has been good. I would have liked to have put in a few better performances but that has been out of my hands and I have been working as hard as I can.
"I've got the game against Millwall, then I am going to go back to Blackburn for a week or so and then I will look to get away for a while, have a bit of a rest, and then I can return fresh again for next season.
"I am pretty sure I'll be doing a full pre-season with Blackburn."
