A JUDGE ordered a pre-sentence report on a burglar, the day after he had slammed him for wasting public money.
Judge Raymond Bennett allowed Thomas Kelly's case to be adjourned for reports by the probation service after previously saying he would pass sentence without one.
Kelly, 27, had earlier turned up late for sentence at Burnley Crown Court which was told he had not been to see the probation service because he claimed he had not received a letter.
The judge said the defendant had not "done a stroke to help himself" and that people like him wasted public money when facilities were available to him.
Kelly, said to have a drink problem, was remanded in custody until yesterday after his barrister said he had concerns about his condition and would not be able to take instructions.
The defendant was further remanded in custody until May 23 by the judge who said: "We can't have him turning up as he did yesterday."
Kelly, of Brennand Street, Burnley, had admitted burglary and been committed for sentence by the Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale magistrates.
