A SUPERB all-round display saw Preston overcome Netherfield in the National Knockout last weekend to set up a 'derby' match at home to Leyland in the next round on May 11.
Preston restricted their opponents to 195 for 5 in their 45 overs. After struggling at 141 for 7 Paul Mann (30 no) and Rhys Williams (28 no) saw Preston home with three balls to spare with three balls to spare with a stand of 58 from seven overs. Earlier Munaf Bavla got the innings off to good start scoring 42.
More good news for Preston is that professional Rauf Akbar has arrived in the country after his visa problems were sorted out and he will be available to play on Saturday.
The cup victory followed a disappointing league defeat the previous day against Morecambe after being dismissed for 166. Leyland escaped with a draw when rain caused the abandonment of their match against Darwen after they had been skittled out for just 65.
The rain came too late for Leyland Motors, though, who fell to a ten wicket defeat at Chorley. The home side's Pakistani professional Stephen John did the damage claiming six wickets for 28 runs.
Preston face Netherfield again in the league at home on Saturday and play host to Blackpool on Monday.
Leyland travel to Kendal and then Fleetwood while Motors are at home to Morecambe and Lancaster.
