ROBBIE Blake believes Burnley owe it to their supporters to end the season on a high.
The striker admitted the fans had been let down by some below par performances in recent weeks.
But he revealed the team would probably have settled for a mid-table finish after a poor start to the season.
Stan Ternent's side were without a win in their opening five games until Blake helped them turn the corner with a penalty at Derby County.
"We do feel that we've let the fans down in the last couple of weeks," Blake said.
"You look at the season and we've had two decent cup runs, and it has been difficult with the squad we've had.
"But we've survived, and I think we would have taken this at the start of last season, with all the people that were released and no-one coming in."
The striker helped Burnley's reserve side move nearer safety with a hat-trick in the 7-2 win over Bury reserves at Turf Moor yesterday.
He admitted he has he has left his scoring flurry too late. But the 27-year-old is still looking to end the season on a winning note on the back of yesterday's hat-trick and two goals against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
"It's just nice to score and, if we win, that's the main thing," he said. "And it was good to get a hat-trick, particularly scoring one with my head because I never score headers."
Blake's hat-trick, added to goals from Matthew O'Neill, Richard Chaplow, Arthur Gnohere and Mark Rasmussen, left Burnley's reserves needing just one point from their final game against Tranmere Rovers to be sure they avoid relegation from the Avon Insurance Premier Division.
But the former Bradford City striker, who Burnley boss Ternent signed for £1 million around 15 months ago, is now turning his attentions to ending the season on a winning note.
"I think it's a bit too late scoring two on Saturday then a hat-trick yesterday. But hopefully if we can get a win on Sunday it would be nice for us," he said.
"Wimbledon aren't going to roll over and die. They'll still want to win the game and so do we.
"When we knew we were safe after the Preston game, we still wanted to win the remaining games to finish as high as we can.
"And it's vital that we get three points on Sunday."
But he revealed he wouldn't be battling to finish the campaign as top goalscorer ahead of strike partner Gareth Taylor.
"I think I'm one goal behind Gareth but I'm not looking to finish in front of him," said Blake, who has netted 16 so far.
"I said earlier in the season when I think we were level on 12 goals, although I want to score goals, it doesn't bother me who scores the most."
