IT WAS a relatively quiet weekend at Clitheroe Golf Club, president Derek Wood having persuaded a number of members to join him for a two-day break at the Marriott Golf and Country Club, Manchester.
A competitive team event on Sunday resulted in a win for John Wetton's team with Dave Heesom, Simon Swindells and Tony Ormiston beating Colin Mustoe's group of Jim Rhodes, Mike Fletcher and club secretary Trevor Ashton.
Back at Clitheroe, James Jackson took the honours with a sparkling nett 68 to win the medal from new member Philip Hanson. Swami Narayana took third spot from Dennis Greenup who had another immaculate round of 73 gross which resulted in a reduction of handicap to one.
Steven Nightingale took Division Two with a cracking nett 68, two shots better than Paul McGuire who has recently been promoted from Division Three. Michael Pate took third prize from ex-Read cricketer Mike Ranson who had a creditable 71.
Roger Hargreaves was a popular winner of Division Three having built himself a steady 71 nett. Brother Peter could not match Roger on the day, but no doubt took advantage of his generous hospitality.
