RONNIE Jepson takes his Burnley reserve side to Tranmere this afternoon looking to secure their place in the Avon Insurance Premier Division.
The Clarets' second string need a point to make absolutely certain of avoiding the drop from their final game of the season at Prenton Park (kick-off 2pm).
But, while Jepson will be keen to stay in the Premier Division to maintain a better standard of football to the reserves, he admitted survival wasn't the be all and end all of reserve team football.
"The important thing is for the players involved in the reserves to perform, whether they are youngsters or fringe players," he said.
"Reserve team football isn't about winning, but it's important that the players put in good performances to show the manager they are capable of going into the first team if needed and capable of doing a job, which Richard Chaplow and Matthew O'Neill have done this season."
He added: "Although we all like to win, whatever game we're playing in, that's not what it's all about. There are other factors as well.
"It's important they show a good attitude."
