STACKSTEADS councillor Michael McShea has been appointed president of Water Brass Band -- and admitted: "I can't even play."
But the well-known councillor's passion for music is enough to keep him interested in the band.
Michael Manning, owner of Mannings Bakers, is retiring from the role after 20 years.
Harry Nuttall, chair of the Brass Band, said: "We have known Michael for a long time and approached him. We were delighted when he accepted and look forward to welcoming him officially to the band."
Coun McShea added: "I was flattered when they asked me to take over from Michael. I am the first person to confess that I haven't got a clue how to play a brass instrument or anything else but I do love all kinds of music and will enjoy the role."
