BLACKPOOL fan, Jack Blundell, remembers exactly where he was when Blackpool won the FA Cup, 50 years ago on Sunday.
But the man reckoned to be Bloomfield Road's oldest regular was a long way from Wembley -- behind the counter in his family's pharmacy!
The 90-year-old, now living in Poulton, still gets to every home match, but only managed to make it to one of his team's three appearances in the Wembley showpiece.
"I wouldn't have seen it live," said Jack: "I might have had a radio on in the shop. There was great excitement in the town, as it is the one and only time that Blackpool have won a cup final.
"I was lucky enough to see the semi-final against Tottenham at Villa Park, but the only cup final I got to was in 1951, when we lost to Newcastle United. In the 1948 final, they played Manchester United, and were ahead for a short time, before United came back."
Being a long-term supporter is nothing new in Jack's family -- his father was featured in the 1972 'Official History' of Blackpool FC, as he was still watching the club at the age of 93.
"My father took me to games, as most parents do if they are keen supporters," recalls Jack: "I remember the motor stand, where the Spion Kop used to be. There were races on the promenade, and when they finished, they took this stand and erected it at the ground."
Jack also remembers the West Stand -- not the dilapidated wooden embarrassment demolished to make way for the new stadium -- the structure that it replaced!
But there have been changes for the better at Bloomfield Road, where he now sits with his friend, Jack Hobbs, in the West Stand.
"For many years, we used to sit in the South Stand but, as we got towards 90, we found it harder. When it was an evening match, we couldn't see as much as we would like.
"So, when the new stands were built, we decided to treat ourselves and go in the central section."
And Jack has words of encouragement for current manager, Steve McMahon: "I think he is making a good job of it, but he is so handicapped by having no money to spend. He has done a good job while at Blackpool."
And Jack hopes -- transport permitting -- to be back at Bloomfield Road in August, ready for yet another season of excitement.
