AN East Lancashire MP Gordon Prentice has welcomed a new move to boost the teaching of English residents to whom it is not first language.
The government has announced 12 pathfinder projects to improve the teaching of English for speakers of other languages (ESOL).
One of them is in East Lancashire, led by Burnley College and involving a range of other partners including Nelson and Colne College.
It aims to develop new strategies for teaching English - in particular in relation to health awareness.
Pendle Labour MP Gordon Prentice said: "This is something very close to my heart.''
He hopes the new strategy will help more people from the Asian community to get jobs in the National health Service and raise awareness of cancer.
