I READ with interest how the DVLA and police are working together to remove untaxed vehicles off the road (LET, April 29). I am beginning to wonder if road drivers are being set up to fail!

Last year, we changed our car and from that point it has been a nightmare trying to obtain the log-book from the DVLA. The car was due to be taxed on May 1 and after numerous phone calls and form filling -- no document.

My partner is self-employed and needs his car to work.

The DVLA failed to deliver the document in time and, in the end, a copy had to be faxed to the Post Office. It will, therefore, not be surprising to find genuine, law-abiding citizens breaking the law because they have not been able to tax their vehicles!

I appreciate that your article was relating to regular offenders and warnings were being given, but had we no regard for the law, and out of desperation, this could so easily have been us.
