A dedicated Preston headteacher got a fond farewell from pupils and staff at Deepdale Junior School as she retired after 30 years service there.
Over the years Mrs Judy Beeston worked generously and loyally not just for the school but also for the wider community. She was described as an inspiration to everyone at special assembly which parents, staff and pupils attended.
To celebrate her retirement, Mrs Beeston is taking part in a sponsored cycle ride in China, raising money for the British Heart Foundation.
Rather than having a leaving present, she has asked for donations to be made towards her quest. Parents, staff and pupils duly obliged by raising over £1,900 in a short space of time. The money was raised through various activities which involved members of the local community and a cheque presentation was made by the Chair of Governors Sheila Hayes.
Miss Munshi, Deputy Headteacher at the school said, "Mrs Beeston is an inspiration to us all and has retained her enthusiasm, generosity and commitment all these years. We have many fond memories of her, and will miss her lively personality."
