A 21-YEAR-OLD man has made a second appearance at Burnley Magistrates Court, after a pensioner was allegedly hit by a flying ashtray, thrown from the beer garden of a town centre pub.
Anthony Clark, of Brunshaw Road, Burnley, charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm on April 26, also now faces an allegation of affray.
His case was sent to the Crown Court and the defendant was bailed until a hearing on May 28. Clark has been ordered not to enter any premises to buy or drink alcohol.
Alleged victim Eileen O' Meara, 78, from Burnley, suffered a fractured skull and underwent emergency surgery for her injuries. She was said to have been hit by the ashtray as she walked along Parker Lane, Burnley, at 4.10pm.
She was initially admitted to Burnley General Hospital but was later transferred to the Royal Preston Hospital after her condition deteriorated.
