LOCAL people are to get a continued say on the future shape of Morecambe.
That's the promise of Lancaster City Council after early plans to revamp the resort attracted widespread interest.
The council has now voted to adopt the draft Morecambe Action Plan - and says the high-level of public support played a key role in its decision.
The news gives the green light for work to start on the details of the plan.
Meetings have already been held with senior representatives of two of the potential funding agencies - English Partnerships and the North West Development Agency.
Both have indicated support for the plan following visits to the resort, says the city council.
The two agencies will be asked to sign up to the action plan while council officers draw up a funding bid.
The newly elected council will now be asked to consider how the action plan will be driven forward, and how residents can remain involved.
A spokesman says there has been 'a significant amount of developer interest in key sites and buildings' in the resort, while early progress has been made with Urban Splash's purchase of the Midland Hotel.
The company is also working on ideas for other sites and the council expects to receive outline proposals from Urban Splash within the next two months.
Technical studies on council homes in the West End may also start soon to determine their condition, use and potential.
