A BUNCH of the hottest contemporary fiddle players from the various regions of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland will be performing at the Platform in Morecambe next Saturday, May 17.
In an age when music becomes more and more homogenised through globalisation, the members of Blazin' Fiddles - pictured right - are well and truly keeping alive the unique styles of their respective regions.
The audience will have a rare opportunity to hear pieces featuring the regional styles of each fiddler followed by all hands jumping in for a wonderful explosion of music. Fiddles and bows will blaze away with one of the most exciting and memorable fiddle ensembles ever to take to the stage.
The fiddle players are Aidan O'Rourke, Allan Henderson, Bruce MacGregor, Catriona MacDonald and Iain Macfarlane with Marc Clement on guitar and Andy Thorburn on piano.
Originally formed to show the world that Scottish fiddle music was still alive and very much kicking, the band first played together at the Highland Festival in 1998. Always popular on the festival scene, the band continues to play to full houses throughout the UK and Europe and have released a new album in 2002 entitled 'The Old Style'.
The band was nominated for a BBC Radio Folk Award for Best Live Act in 2003.
The concert will start at 8pm and tickets priced at £9 adults and £8 concessions are available from the Box Office on 01524 582803.
