BUDDING Tarantinos could see their work showcased on the silver screen as film festival organisers seek out new talent in the area.
Lancaster's first Film and New Media Festival will feature a diverse line-up of work by local filmmakers, whether experienced or beginners, on July 12 and 13.
Organisers say that anything goes, from animation to documentary, and believe this spell in the limelight could be a launch pad into the film industry for local artists.
Hopefuls have until May 19 to enter their work for the festival - a selection panel will then watch every submission before the film programme is agreed.
The festival's driving force Peter Neaves expects the event to become a firm fixture in Lancaster's cultural calendar.
Peter, a graphic designer and filmmaker of Lancaster's Best Centre Training Organisation, told the Citizen: "We are hoping to get 50 to 100 entries. It is stirring up a great deal of interest, and I love the fact we are getting something done in Lancaster.
We are already thinking about the festival in 2004."
Peter has teamed up with the Dukes and Folly to stage the festival, which is divided into different categories and offers prizes for the best entry in each section.
Dukes film manager Tim Young told the Citizen the festival was "a calling card" to local film-makers.
"This is a big thing for Lancaster. The North West is a creatively rich area, and Lancaster is part of that. The festival is a great way to celebrate local people making film."
