MARLON Beresford has not completely ruled out a return to Turf Moor.
The former Burnley stopper says it is unlikely he will have a third spell with the Clarets, after he was released by the club along with fellow goalkeeper Nik Michopoulos last week.
But he admitted he could not disregard the chance of a comeback altogether.
"I guess it's a case of never say never," the 33-year-old said.
"Right now I'm in the same situation I was in last season because I haven't got a club.
"I've gone through it once so I know what to expect. My agent's currently in contact with a few clubs so at this stage I don't know what will happen."
Beresford, who was released by Middlesbrough at the end of last season and returned to Burnley after an initial six-year spell, added: "I don't know if I'll be back.
"I don't think that will be the case but you never know in this game.
"I started this season at York before coming back to Burnley on short-term contracts."
While many may anticipate Beresford would be glad to see the back of this season after seeing seven goals go past him against Watford, six against Rotherham and Grimsby, and five against Reading, the former Sheffield Wednesday admits he has enjoyed his final campaign for the Clarets.
"Although the results towards the end of the season weren't particularly good, after four years of sitting on the bench at Middlesbrough, it was nice to get a full season in," he said.
"I've really enjoyed my time at Burnley, the fans have been great, the club's been great and I wish them all the very best for the future."
Meanwhile, a second Premiership team will play a pre-season friendly at Turf Moor.
After announcing Leeds United would travel to Burnley on July 27, chairman Barry Kilby told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph the club was hoping to entertain a second top flight club.
And the Clarets will entertain Steve Bruce's Birmingham City on August 2, kick-off 1pm.
