A MILE-long stretch of road was sealed off after reports of a chemical leak at a water treatment works.
Fire crews from Blackburn and Accrington and specialist chemical team from Preston, were sent to the Fishmoor water treatment works, off Roman Road, to investigate a suspected chlorine leak.
The road was sealed off from 7.30pm until 10pm while crews, dressed in chemical protection suits, investigated the site.
The site is next to the Lytham Road housing estate, but no houses were evacuated.
Sub Officer Bo Gaskin, from Blackburn Fire Station, said: "We are not sure whether there was a minor leak or whether the detection equipment at the plant was too sensitive.
"There certainly wasn't a big enough leak to cause concern to the public."
