THE body of a 58-year-old man has been found on railway tracks close to Clitheroe railway station.
British Transport Police officers, North West air ambulance and land ambulance crews were called to the site at 3.30pm yesterday.
Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.
The man, who has not been named by police, was hit by a train 300 yards from the station in the direction of Hellifield.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Train services were halted while officers attended and removed the body but the procedure took less than an hour, so there was no major disruption.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said the man had been identified and the coroner had been advised of the death.
He said: "We would like to express our condolences as a police force to the family of the deceased."
