GOLBORNE CC made a miserable start to the new Bolton Association season.
Their opening game at Adlington was washed out after just 24 overs while the following day a batting collapse brought a three-run defeat by Astley and Tyldesley.
At Adlington openers Dale Tyrer and Mark Mercer started promisingly until Mercer was hit on the hand by a full toss and had to retire. New Aussie pro Brad Roache and Tyrer (54) took the score to 1200 before the rain came.
The following day A&T took first knock and had made 34 before the wicket of Brooks fell. His departure heralded a procession of wickets with only Smith (37) offering much resistance as A&T were all out for 101.
The wickets were shared between father and son, Barry and Tony Greenwood - Barry grabbing six and dad two.
Golborne, however, were soon in trouble on a drying wicket. Only skipper Graham Marston (63) and Tyrer (10) made double figures as they were shot out for 99, Walsh and Khan taking five wickets apiece.
The seconds didn't fare much better, being heavily beaten by A&T. A&T batted first and made 120 but in reply only Makinson put up much of a fight as they were skittled for just 46. Juniors James Carr and Tom Hart bowled well, giving hope for the future.
