ROVERS striker Andy Cole today admitted he can't wait for the season to end after describing his form as 'terrible' this term.
The former England and Manchester United star has endured a miserable time up front after scoring just six goals in the Premiership this season.
But the 31-year-old hit-man has refused to make excuses for his failure to find the net on a regular basis as Rovers prepare for Sunday's make-or-break clash with Tottenham.
"I've had a terrible season and I'll be the first to admit that," said Cole.
"I haven't got myself anywhere near enough goals this season and, for whatever reason, things just haven't worked out for me.
"I'm not going to make any excuses for myself and start blaming injuries or anything like that.
"I know what I'm capable of and I haven't done as well as I wanted to this season.
"Sometimes in football that happens but I just haven't been good enough this year in terms of the personal levels I set myself.
"I know myself I haven't done myself justice and, from that point of view, it's been a season to forget."
At one point Cole went nearly four months without a goal in the Premiership, finally breaking that spell with a scrambled strike against Leeds a fortnight ago.
That was his first league goal since December 28 last year when he scored in a 2-2 home draw with West Ham.
And he admits that's the longest barren spell he can remember in his entire career.
"That's probably the longest I've ever gone without a goal but I didn't really think about it," said Cole, who's still the second highest goalscorer in Premiership history.
"Up until then I'd been feeling alright but then after that goal against West Ham nothing seemed to happen for me and I don't know why that was.
"Maybe I could have had a few more chances but that's football. At the end of the day, I haven't scored enough goals."
Ironically, Cole will come face to face with his most public critic when Rovers face Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
It was Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle who once famously said during his tenure as England manager that the Blackburn striker needed five chances to score a goal.
But Cole then had the last laugh by bagging the winner as Rovers beat the Londoners in last season's Worthington Cup final.
That victory secured Rovers a passage into Europe and Cole would love to emulate that feat by helping the club to pip Everton to sixth spot on Sunday.
"I'll be very disappointed if we don't qualify for Europe," said the Rovers striker, a former Champions League winner with Manchester United.
"We had a great opportunity to put it to bed last Saturday but, for whatever reason, we didn't take it.
"Generally speaking, though, we have to be happy with the season we've had overall because the lowest we can finish is seventh."
Rovers will add Matt Jansen to the squad for the trip to the capital after the striker returned from Coventry this week.
Meanwhile, manager Graeme Souness has dismissed speculation linking him with a move for Newcastle defender Nikos Dabizas.
