AN Astley man was taken to hospital after a 32 ton lorry overturned on a bend outside his home sending debris crashing into his garden.
Fred Clough, was gardening at his bungalow home alongside Astley OAP's headquarters next to St Ambrose Primary School when the vehicle crashed onto its side as it travelled down Lark Hill towards Blackmoor village.
He is believed to have been struck by some of the contents of the bulk tipper which slid into a metal safety barrier on the bend near South Lane.
The mid-Tuesday afternoon accident resulted in rush hour traffic chaos as the A572 route between Boothstown and Leigh was closed for three hours at Princes Avenue resulting in heavy traffic flow through Tyldesley and Atherton.
Police said the truck driver received minor injuries.
Mr Clough was detained overnight in Hope Hospital but allowed home on Wednesday morning.
