SCHOOL staff in 100 East Lancashire schools are to be awarded cash bonuses for helping pupils achieve high or improved test results.
The school achievement awards scheme reward everyone working within the schools from the headteacher to the caretaker.
David Milliband, schools standards minister, said: "Success in schools depends on each and every member of staff working together to raise standards.
"It is right to reward the staff whose work helps pupils to learn and these awards celebrate their achievements.
"Every person working in a school has their part to play in raising standards, whether they are a classroom assistant or a teacher, a bursar or a dinner lady.
"The school achievement awards celebrate the work of the entire school community in helping pupils to achieve high or improved test results and rewards them for their efforts with a cash boost to their pay packets."
This year's awards, worth around £5,700 for primary schools and around £25,700 for secondary schools, were awarded to:
Schools where pupil performance was substantially better than in 1999
Schools where pupil performance was better than most schools in similar circumstances
Schools that have come out of special measures in the 2001/02 school year
Amounts given to individuals are determined by governing bodies advised by headteachers and the Department for Education and Skills.
Mr Milliband added: "Our goal is to improve the quality of teaching and learning throughout the school system."
Rhyddings High School, in Haworth Street, Oswaldtwistle, has been awarded £31,520.
Deputy headteacher Paul Trickett said: "This is the first time we have got this award and it was because we were deemed to be significantly better than schools equivalent to us.
"We are obviously very proud to get it as it is a nice award which is as much about the achievement of the school as the financial reward."
