TYRONE Mears scored an own goal to ensure the season failed to end on a high for Preston North End.
After an even contest in the first half, Mears let the home side in front within 18 seconds of the restart.
He looped a header over keeper Jonathan Gould from what had been a tame cross from Paul McVeigh.
Phil Mulryne thumped a second after 63 minutes to seal the points for Nigel
Worthington's side, who finished eighth in the league.
Dickson Etuhu had led the charge in the first half, with a shot himself before setting up Simon Lynch, who headed over from six yards.
Had it not been for Gould in the second half, Norwich would have doubled their lead within five minutes through teenager Ian Henderson.
Preston battled to get back into the game, with Paul McKenna and Eric Skora both trying their luck from distance but it was to no avail.
