I AM grateful to your reporter, David Higgerson, for enlightening me concerning the two lumps of rusty old iron (LET, May 3), which I observed in a prominent position outside the Staples store.
I now know that they are another example of 'public art!'
To my way of thinking, any art is a waste of time and effort if its meaning is not easily deciphered or it is not a thing of beauty.
The sculptures in Church Street require explanatory plaques if we are to understand their connection with the history of Blackburn.
The money would be better spent for the public good by providing extra facilities at the East Lancashire Hospice or shelter for the homeless.
I'm sure the Salvation Army could put the money to better use.
