FIREFIGHTERS are looking for new recruits. Fire chiefs are inviting members of the public to give up some of their spare time to become community firefighters, who work for the service aside from their main jobs.
Kevin Birtwell, Darwen sub-officer, said: "The job is a very rewarding experience and it is a real challenge for people who want to provide something positive to the community.
"Candidates need to be physically fit and they must be able to reach the Union Street station within five minutes from home or work."
Anyone interested should contact 01254 356980 for an application form or drop into the fire station on any Tuesday evening from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
