BOURNEMOUTH 3, SHAKERS 1: SHAKERS have been dealt a massive morale blow on top of their play-off semi-final second leg, defeat at Bournemouth with star striker Jon Newby admitting he may quit the club at the end of the campaign.
There will be a full report and all the reaction to the Bournemouth defeat on Wednesday morning.
While not having a prolific season, the club's top scorer for the past two seasons remains the focal point of all Bury's attacking momentum.
But, with his contract up after the play-offs, the cash-strapped club can no longer afford his inflated salary and he looks bound for pastures new.
Speaking after the first-leg draw with Bournemouth -- almost certainly his last appearance at Gigg Lane -- Newby admitted he was heading for the exit.
"I have spoken to the gaffer about a contract and they do want to keep me here, but I would have to take a pay cut," he revealed.
"I have a lot of friends here and have really enjoyed my time here. But I do have to think about myself at times like this and I can't afford to be taking a wage cut at this stage of my career."
Manager Andy Preece said all hope was not lost on keeping Newby for next season.
"We don't know what's going to happen yet. I would have thought he will have at least one or two options open to him," he said.
"But I have always said I want to keep him. We will have to have a look at the financial situation at the end of the season. Hopefully that won't be on Wednesday morning.
"There's not a lot of money anywhere in football at the moment so that probably gives us more of a chance."
