"HODDLE for Burnley" was the chant from the buoyant Rovers contingent at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Improbable maybe, but with the disgruntled home support lobbing their season tickets on the pitch in finest Turf Moor tradition, at least he would feel at home.
A distinct lack of buses and taxis on the Seven Sisters Road meant I was just negotiating the turnstiles at the time of Dwight Yorke's fourth minute opener. And what a good goal it appeared too on the replays.
I briefly fretted that I might have missed the best part of the afternoon. Such fears proved groundless as we arguably saved our best for last this season.
What a difference a week makes. After such a disappointing result against West Brom the players really do deserve every credit for turning things round
so emphatically.
Possibly spurred on by the presence of Matt Jansen on the bench, Yorke and Cole put in by far their best performance whilst playing together.
At the back Tiny Taylor was immense. Whilst it's becoming hard to find the words to adequately describe just how good Damien Duff is. His second half strike made it six goals in nine games since return from injury.
If only we can get 30 games or so out of him next season.
However as good as the action was on the pitch, it didn't tell the whole story. On the final day of last season the Worthington Cup win was celebrated.
Following a similar sort of demolition job on another London side, Fulham. This, like then, was an occasion to savour.
There was the rapturous reception accorded to the limbering up Matt Jansen which must have brought a tear to many a hardened Lancastrian eye.
By that time the result was so far beyond doubt Graeme Souness indulged in a wonderful piece of showmanship by gleefully responding to the fans pleas of "Souey, bring him on!"
And all the while, whilst the result at White Hart Lane was never in doubt, events at Goodison Park conspired perfectly in our favour. Things like that don't usually happen to Blackburn Rovers. But they did on Sunday.
And so as several players threw their shirts to the adoring masses another successful season drew to a close. That of course counts for nothing next season when the hard work starts all over again.
But really there's no reason why if the manager is given sufficient backing to retain the "crown jewels", and gradually add a bit of quality here and there, we can't make a realistic tilt at that coveted and lucrative fourth spot.
I must finish this season by offering votes of thanks. Firstly to everyone connected with the club for their sterling efforts in establishing us as the sixth most successful side in the country.
And of course as the best town team in the land. Secondly to the numerous people who have made themselves known to express their appreciation of the column.
Have a great summer and see you all at Ewood next season.
