CHARITY fundraisers are on the lookout for daredevil volunteers prepared to abseil down one of Rossendale's most famous landmarks.

The Children's Hospital Appeal Trust is looking for people to take part in the charity event this weekend.

The abseil will take place from the top of the Peel Monument on Holcombe Hill, Ramsbottom, on Sunday.

Last year 40 eager, intrepid but nervous participants took part in a similar abseil and ended up raising £3,000 for the charity.

The Trust, which supports children's healthcare across the North West, has raised more than £5 million since its creation and is hoping the abseil will become a major annual event.

It is hoping this weekend's stunt will give their total a massive boost while giving some of the borough's more adventurous residents a taste of the high life.

Abseils will take place every ten minutes from 10am to 5pm.

Time slots will be allocated on a first come first served basis on registration on the day. To register for the event competitors will need to pay £20, which is non refundable, as well as raising a further £80 minimum sponsorship.

All abseilers must be 14 years of age or over, and if under 18 years will need a parent or guardian with them, and must be fit enough to climb the 150 steps to the top of the tower.

Money raised during other recent events has enabled the Trust to purchase a baby ventilator for Burnley General Hospital.
