I THINK that the cutting down of the trees in the Memorial Park, Great Harwood (LET, May 7), is terrible. I'm worried they may be felling healthy ones instead of the ones that look diseased or whatever is said to be wrong with them.
They all look perfectly healthy to me. And why are they planting different trees in their place?
I think it is wrong that something like this can happen without it being published first in local papers, etc. It's as if the council don't want the people of Great Harwood to know about it, which is unfair.
I never heard about it until I went for a walk around the park and saw what was happening. It's our local park and they are our local chestnut trees. Conker season won't be the same again.
