MYSTERY surrounds the discovery of a man's body found close to a burning car in Whittle-le-Woods, Chorley.
Detectives are appealing for help from the public following the grim discovery on Moss Lane.
Emergency crews were called to the scene -- just off the M61 motorway -- on Thursday morning, after receiving reports of a car on fire.
The burning vehicle was spotted at about 6.20am on the country road.
The area was sealed off and a forensic examination of the scene was being carried out.
Acting Detective Superintendent Ian Kennedy said officers were likely to be at the scene throughout Thursday.
He said: "At this stage it is a mystery as to what has happened and we will probably be at the scene for several hours to establish what the cause is.
"We'd appreciate any help from anyone who may have seen the car before or after the fire."
