RESIDENTS enjoyed the chance to ask questions on a range of subjects when former Mayor of Padiham, Councillor Granville Lord, hosted an Open Forum at Padiham Town Hall.
Jim Heys, Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale Primary Care Trust Chairman, explained the work of the Trust and said assessing and improving health needs in the area was of prime importance.
Mr Heys took questions about the lack of NHS dentists and said that initiatives were taking place between the Trust and universities to encourage recently qualified dentists to the area.
Residents said they were very disturbed by the high rate of drug abuse, teenage drinking, vandalism, cruelty and the number of derelict properties in the area.
Work starts on houses
BUILDING has started on a site opposite the village school in Hapton. There is to be a mixture of houses and flats. The parish council hopes that this extension of properties on the other side of the road to the main village will mean that a zebra crossing will be installed, which will slow traffic through the village.
