PARISIAN charm, olde worlde courtesies, romance and glorious frock coats and bustles mingle with emotional obsession and heartbreak in a splendid new adaptation of Camille.
BAFTA award-winning actress Daniela Nardini gives a heart-rending performance as Marguerite Gautier, the prostitute who sells herself to the richest dukes and counts in Paris, but then falls helplessly in love and discovers the price that has to be paid for her short-lived happiness.
The play explores the depth of feelings between Camille and the handsome Armand (Elliot Cowan) in beautiful and sensuous scenes depicting their obsessional love for each other.
Opening with an auction of Camille's jewellery and effects after her death the play begins in Marguerite's apartment in nineteenth century Paris, and subsequently the story is told in retrospect, with outstanding performances from every one of its excellent cast.
The warning about nudity and adult language hadn't deterred a capacity audience at the Grand on the first night, but if it had actually encouraged a few they may have been disappointed!
CAMILLE, at Blackpool Grand Theatre. The play runs until Saturday. Contact 01253 290190 for tickets.
