I WAS neither hurt nor offended by the letter headed 'Morecambe really has had its day' (Citizen, May 1). I was, though, somewhat saddened.
Can the writer really believe that Manchester is preferable to Morecambe? I left Manchester for Morecambe in 1978 and have never regretted it.
I realise I am now 35 years older and could be considered geriatric (not all old people are ill, by the way) but I wasn't aware that Bare is supposedly bursting at the seams with specimens like myself.
I, too, have spent some happy weekends in Manchester but I am always content to return home. I love the comparative cleanliness of Morecambe, the friendliness of the people, the sea, the wildlife and the floral displays on the promenade... I could go on.
Perhaps Morecambe is not the most desirable place from a tourist's point of view, but try visiting Rhyl some time. Our lowly dump is a haven by comparison.
I neither read the Guardian nor carry a union card but I have a great love of this place where so many of us from inner city environments find peace and beauty (and the Citizen).
