WESTLEIGH High School has received a glowing report from Ofsted Inspectors.
They have confirmed what the people of Hindley Green and Leigh have known for a while, that the school provides an excellent education.
A delighted head teacher, John Pout, said: "This report is public recognition of the massive team effort to improve the school. The inspectors have highlighted 22 strengths, but we are not going to rest on our laurels.
"It is nice to know we are officially a good school, but we all want Westleigh High School to be one of the best not just in the local area, but in the country!"
Fast-improving
The school was inspected in March and the inspectors reported that Westleigh is a fast-improving school where teaching and learning is good and were pupils achieve well.
There has also been good progress in improving overall standards of teaching and learning, and attainment in national tests and GCSE examinations.
They also praised GCSE 5+ A*-C results which have improved over the last three years at three times the rate seen nationally, the pupils' attitudes, behaviour and personal development and the very good leadership shown by the headteacher, senior management team and governors which is driving the improvements. No poor lessons were seen.
