BRITAIN'S most famous helmet has made it back to Britain as its soldier owner returned home to the Fylde coast from Iraq last week.
An image of Fleetwood Royal Marine commando Eric Walderman, 25, sporting a bullet-ridden helmet was beamed around the world amid claims that it had saved his life during combat in Umm Qsar.
It later emerged that the Eric had not been wearing the super-tough Kevlar headgear when the bullet-holes were made, though the rifleman's family have denied he conned reporters covering events in the Gulf.
Speaking exclusively to The Citizen, Eric's mum, Brenda Walderman said: "Eric is back home, but hasn't really spoken much about what went on in Iraq.
"He's just enjoying some peace and quiet at home and the helmet has come back with him."
