IN reply to your Comment and Blackburn with Darwen Mayor's outburst (LET, May 7) about teaching road safety to children, my efforts to teach my child road safety are undermined by the attitude of others.
At zebra crossings, she sees others cross nearby and cars crossing it while we are still on it. At traffic lights while we are waiting for the green man, others cross on red or knock her out of the way to cross.
When I teach her to use the crossing point with the island in the middle of the road she sees people crossing without looking.
Road safety for children will only work if all adults make a conscious effort to remember to cross safely. Then their example will be positive rather than negative.
I can understand parents who just give up and cross when they need to rather than look for the safe alternatives.
S RONALDSON (Mr), Fawcett Close, Blackburn.
