BURY'S Muslim community is mourning the loss of one of its most prominent figures.
Sajawal Khan (pictured) died on Wednesday, aged 65. Mr Khan lived in Bury for 37 years, and spent much of his time working for equal opportunity and welfare organisations in the town. He recently moved from his home in South Bank Road to Bradford.
He sat on the board of directors for Bury Metro Racial Equality Council, the Khizra Mosque, and the Jinnah Day Care Centre and was also the founder and chairman of the Pathan Welfare Association.
A spokesman for the Muslim community said: "He was a highly-respected member of our community and will be greatly missed." The funeral will take place today in Bradford.
